Test Structure For IELTS
Modules:
There are mainly 2 modules:
- Academic Module
- General Training Module
IELTS Academic – It is intended for those who want to enroll in universities for higher education and for professionals such as medical doctors and nurses who want to study or practice in an English-speaking country.
IELTS General Training – It is intended for those planning to undertake non-academic training or to gain work experience, or for immigration purpose.
The difference between the Academic and General Training versions is the content, context, and purpose of the tasks. All other features like timing allocation, length of written responses and reporting of scores are the same.
Test Format For IELTS exam
The test assesses your abilities in listening, reading, writing and speaking. The Listening, Reading and Writing sections of the test are completed on the same day, with no breaks in between them. The speaking section will be conducted a week before or after the other tests.
The total test time is: 2 hours and 45 minutes
- Listening: 30 minutes
- Reading: 60 minutes
- Writing: 60 minutes
- Speaking: 11-14 minutes
Listening and Speaking tests are same for all the candidates, but Reading and Writing tests differ depending on whether the candidate is taking Academic or General Training versions of the test.
While reviewing for the IELTS examination, students are very conscious about the scores that they get. Their scores indicate how well they have been doing in the IELTS review. Students use their scores to indicate whether their knowledge for the examination is already enough for them to reach their target score.
